Aida is an opera in four acts by Giuseppe Verdi, with an Italian libretto by Antonio Ghislanzoni, based on a plot by Auguste Mariette. Set in Ancient Egypt, the opera tells the love story between Aida, an enslaved Ethiopian princess, and Radames, a commander of the Egyptian army. Their love is complicated by the war between their countries and the jealousy of Amneris, the pharaoh's daughter, who also loves Radames. This La Scala production features stellar performances by Luciano Pavarotti, Maria Chiara, and Ghena Dimitrova, conducted by Lorin Maazel.
