«Tosca» is Puccini's opera directed by Franco Zeffirelli at the Metropolitan Opera, with Hildegard Behrens, Plácido Domingo and Cornell MacNeil, on DVD.
The plot pits a singer, an artist and a police chief in a story of jealousy, betrayal and political repression, with the escape of a prisoner as the trigger for tension. The work combines passion, intrigue and an oppressive atmosphere in its Metropolitan Opera staging.
Deutsche Grammophon edition. Sung in Italian, with subtitles in Italian, English, German, French, Spanish and Chinese; running time 127 min; NTSC, region 0.
For those who enjoy opera and Metropolitan Opera stage productions, admirers of Plácido Domingo and Hildegard Behrens.
