It recounts the defense of Rorke's Drift during the Anglo-Zulu War of 1879: about a hundred British soldiers of the South Wales Borderers resist the assault of thousands of Zulu warriors. Based on a real episode, it combines war action with a story of courage and honor, and includes Michael Caine in one of his first notable roles.
