«Acali» is the essay by Santiago Genovés published by Planeta in 1975 in hardcover (454 pages, in Spanish).
Santiago Genovés recounts the social experiment he himself devised: six women and five men lived together for 101 days aboard the raft Acali, adrift between Africa and America, to study human behavior under extreme conditions. He describes the tensions, interpersonal relationships and psychological challenges of forced coexistence in a confined space.
The work belongs to the Espejo del Mundo collection (volume 6, Hechos series) and includes photographic plates in color and black and white. The experiment became popularly known as «la balsa del sexo».
For readers interested in social psychology, the history of navigation and scientific expeditions.
