«Chiapas: La nueva lucha india» is the historical essay by Luis Hernández Navarro, published by Talasa Ediciones in paperback (160 pages, in Spanish).
It analyzes the uprising of the Zapatista Army of National Liberation (EZLN) in Chiapas and its impact on Mexican politics: the rebellion, born in the Lacandon Jungle, was neither a spontaneous insurrection nor the action of external combatants, but the response of thousands of peasants to socio-economic problems and ancestral grievances.
It is part of the Talasa collection (no. 81). The author was technical secretary of the Commission for Follow-up and Verification of the Chiapas Peace Accords.
For readers interested in the recent history of Mexico, indigenous movements and Latin American social conflicts.
