Esta edición cuenta con el apoyo de la Consellería de Cultura, Educación e Universidade a través de la Secretaría Xeral de Política Lingüística. Entre 1920 y 1932, Manuel García Barros publicó los “Contiños da Terra” en el periódico El Emigrado, que luego recogió en libro (1931 y 1952). Un conjunto de relatos de profunda raíz costumbrista, irónicos y humorísticos, donde destaca la pericia en la caracterización de los personajes populares, y que le dieron gran fama. Estos relatos fueron creados no solo como un simple entretenimiento, sino también como una herramienta instructiva, a través del costumbrismo y el humor, para “afeccionar o pobo á lectura no noso idioma abríndolle camiño a cousas de máis fondura polas que era preciso facelo entrar”.
