«Cuentos de humor y de horror» is a collection of stories by Saki, published by Editorial Anagrama in paperback (144 pages, in Spanish).
Saki's stories mix acid humor and horror to portray English society at the beginning of the twentieth century, with its hypocrisy and elegant cruelty. Everyday life and Edwardian drawing rooms fill with the grotesque and the unexpected; irony sustains brief plots with surprising endings. Stories that range from the domestic to the sinister.
The book is number 451 in Anagrama's Compactos collection and was published in 2008; the translation is by Rubén Massera. Saki is the pseudonym of Hector Hugh Munro.
For readers of short stories with black humor and irony, and for those interested in British literature of the early twentieth century.
Hector Hugh Munro, popularly known by his pen name Saki and also frequently as H. H. Munro, was a British writer whose witty, mischievous and sometimes macabre stories satirise Edwardian society and culture. He is considered to be a master of the short story and is often compared to O. Henry and Dorothy Parker. Influenced by Oscar Wilde, Lewis Carroll and Rudyard Kipling, Munro himself influenced A. A. Milne, Noël Coward and P. G. Wodehouse.
