«Desde el Monte Santo: Viaje a la sombra de Bizancio» is a travel and history book by William Dalrymple, in paperback, published by Ediciones Península.
In the spring of 587, two monks traveled through the Byzantine world from the Bosphorus to Egypt, gathering the wisdom of stylites and desert fathers. Following in their footsteps, guided by the writings of John Moschus, Dalrymple traces a journey through the Near East that is at once a historical chronicle and an elegy to Eastern Christianity.
Translation by Ángela Pérez Gómez. Published in 2000 in the Viajes collection; 368 pages.
For readers interested in the history of Byzantium, Eastern Christianity and travel literature.
