«El Evangelio según Jesucristo» is the novel by José Saramago published by Punto de Lectura in paperback, with 496 pages in Spanish.
A novel that revisits the life of Jesus from an earthly perspective: his birth, his relationship with Mary Magdalene, encounters with angels and demons, and the torment of a man who discovers that God has reserved for him an unexpected mission. Saramago turns the guilt and doubts of Joseph, the father, into the starting point of a story that interrogates the meaning of sacrifice and the nature of faith.
Work originally published as O Evangelho segundo Jesus Cristo in 1991, translated into Spanish by Basilio Losada. Edition within the Formato Grande collection of Punto de Lectura.
For readers of contemporary fiction seeking a literary and critical approach to biblical narratives, with the characteristic prose of the Portuguese Nobel Prize in Literature.

José de Sousa Saramago was a Portuguese writer. He was the recipient of the 1998 Nobel Prize in Literature for his "parables sustained by imagination, compassion and irony [with which he] continually enables us once again to apprehend an elusory reality." His works, some of which can be seen as allegories, commonly present subversive perspectives on historic events, emphasizing the theopoetic human factor. In 2003 Harold Bloom described Saramago as "the most gifted novelist alive in the world today" and in 2010 said he considers Saramago to be "a permanent part of the Western canon", while James Wood praises "the distinctive tone to his fiction because he narrates his novels as if he were someone both wise and ignorant."
