The Ghost of Monsieur Scarron (1959) is the third and final installment of the historical novel cycle by Janet Lewis, based on cases from a 19th-century anthology of judicial errors. Set in Paris between 1694 and 1697, during the reign of Louis XIV, the story follows the tragedy of bookbinder Jean Larcher amidst famine, political intrigue, and the search for a subversive pamphlet against the King and Madame de Maintenon.
