«El Lazarillo de Tormes» is the anonymous picaresque novel published by Oxford University Press España, S.A. in paperback (136 pages, in Spanish).
Lázaro de Tormes narrates in the first person his life as a servant to several masters, from childhood to adulthood. The story shows how harsh conditions and mistreatment force Lázaro to become cunning in order to survive. The work is considered a social critique and presents an antihero far from the idealized heroes of its time.
2015 edition from the El Árbol de los Clásicos collection, with adaptation by Vicente Muñoz Puelles and appendices by Ana Alonso and Javier Pelegrín.
Recommended for young readers aged 14 and up, especially as school reading or an introduction to Spanish classics.
