«En los mares del sur» is Robert Louis Stevenson's travel narrative, published by Punto De Lectura in paperback (482 pages, in Spanish).
At thirty-eight and ill with tuberculosis, Stevenson set out for the South Seas seeking a more favorable climate and ended up settling in Samoa, where the natives called him Tusitala. The book gathers his voyages through the Marquesas, the Paumotus, Honolulu, the Gilberts, and Samoa, and his observations on island life.
The subtitle indicates that the text brings together observations on the Marquesas, Paumotus, and Gilberts during two cruises on the schooners Casco (1888) and Equator (1889). Includes a prologue by Horacio Vázquez-Rial.
Recommended for readers of travel literature and for those who want to approach Stevenson's figure and his final years in the Pacific.
Novelista, poeta y escritor de viajes escocés del siglo XIX, autor de La isla del tesoro y El extraño caso del doctor Jekyll y el señor Hyde.
