Synopsis of Entre dos palacios
«Entre dos palacios» es la primera entrega de la aclamada trilogía de Naguib Mahfuz, ganador del Premio Nobel de Literatura. La novela nos transporta al El Cairo de principios del siglo XX, donde Ahmad Abd el-Gawwad, un hombre de negocios, ejerce un control absoluto sobre su familia bajo las estrictas normas de la ley musulmana. Sin embargo, fuera de casa, Ahmad lleva una vida de placeres y libertades, frecuentando amigos, disfrutando del vino y seduciendo a mujeres. Sus hijos, Yasín, Jadiga, Fahmi, Aisha y Kamal, cada uno a su manera, son víctimas de la hipocresía y el miedo que impone su padre. La novela explora temas como el enclaustramiento, la resignación, el amor, la política y la religión, ofreciendo un retrato íntimo y conmovedor de una familia atrapada entre las tradiciones y los deseos personales. Esta obra, junto con «Palacio del deseo» y «La azucarera», es considerada una de las más importantes de la literatura árabe contemporánea.

Naguib Mahfouz Abdelaziz Ibrahim Ahmed Al-Basha was an Egyptian writer who won the 1988 Nobel Prize in Literature. In awarding the prize, the Swedish Academy described him as a writer "who, through works rich in nuance – now clear-sightedly realistic, now evocatively ambiguous – has formed an Egyptian narrative art that applies to all mankind".
