«Espill» is the medieval verse work by Jaume Roig in a theatrical adaptation, published by Edicions del Bullent in paperback (80 pages, in Catalan).
The work, written around 1460 and composed of more than 16,000 verses, follows a narrator who reviews his experiences with women of different conditions. The theatrical adaptation, faithful to the original, stages the characters of that journey, from the maiden to the widow or the novice, and dramatizes the satire of gender conflicts.
The book was published in 2014 and is number 6 in the Torsimany collection. Anna Marí Aguilar signs the theatrical adaptation and Daniel Tormo appears as a collaborator.
The edition is suitable for young people from 12 years old and for readers of theater and medieval literature in Catalan.
Jaume Roig was a doctor in the city of València and the author of Espill (Mirror), a work of medieval literature in the Valencian/Catalan language. Together with Ausiàs March, and Isabel de Villena, Jaume Roig is one of the three writers chosen by Henry W. Longfellow to summarise the literature of the 15th century in the Catalan language.
