Shards of Honor is the first installment in the Miles Vorkosigan adventure series, narrating the meeting of the hero's parents and the cultural clash between Beta and Barrayar. Cordelia Naismith, from the Betan Expeditionary Force, finds herself in the wrong place at the wrong time, leading to an unexpected encounter with Aral Vorkosigan.
