Gioventù

Synopsis of Gioventù

«Gioventù» is the short novel by Joseph Conrad published by Opportunity Books in paperback (60 pages, in Italian).

The protagonist recalls his youth and his first voyage to the East aboard the Judea, a journey that becomes a succession of misfortunes: the ship is blocked by storms, suffers a fire, and finally sinks near Bangkok. The narrative contrasts the hopeful dedication of the young sailor with the disillusionment imposed by reality.

This edition belongs to the «Biblioteca ideale tascabile» collection; translation by Piero Jahier, edited by Maria Grazia Cerruti.
