«Illa Flaubert» is the contemporary novel by Miquel Àngel Riera, published by Destino CAT in paperback (233 pages, in Catalan).
A literature professor, unable to accept the passage of time, decides to seek solitude as the only way to resist it and ends up shutting himself away in the lighthouse of an abandoned island, where he confronts the idea of death. Miquel Àngel Riera moves away from the realism of his early novels and offers a parable about the great questions of human existence.
It belongs to the Trident collection from Ediciones Destino. The original edition dates from 1990. It won the Josep Pla, Crítica de Narrativa Catalana and Joan Crexells prizes.
For readers of contemporary fiction and Catalan literature, and for those who appreciate stories with a philosophical undertone.
