«Isabel II. No se puede reinar inocentemente» is the biography of Queen Isabel II by Isabel Burdiel, published by Espasa in hardcover (439 pages).
The book reconstructs the reign of Isabel II (1830-1904), who inherited the throne at age three, ruled from thirteen after a civil war, and was dethroned at thirty-eight. Burdiel analyzes how her arranged marriage and court intrigues conditioned her power and portrays the first Spanish constitutional queen as a contradictory figure.
Published in 2004 as the first volume of the Espasa Fórum collection. Includes bibliographic references and index.
A work for those interested in the political history of nineteenth-century Spain and in biographies of its monarchs.
