In 'House of Meetings', Martin Amis transports us to the post-war Soviet Union, where two brothers, Lev, a pacifist poet, and a war veteran, find themselves imprisoned in a labor camp in Siberia. The story revolves around a love triangle with Zoya, the woman they both love and who marries Lev before they are both arrested. In this context, the 'House of Meetings' in the camp becomes the setting for conjugal visits and a crucial reunion in 1956. Through the eyes of the survivor, Amis constructs a reflection on the Russia that fades away and the ability of literature to understand reality.
