«La Grèce ancienne, tome 1» is the historical essay by Jean-Pierre Vernant and Pierre Vidal-Naquet, published by Seuil in paperback, in French.
This first volume, subtitled «Du mythe à la raison», studies the mythology, rites and ceremonies of ancient Greece. The work analyzes how these traditional representations gradually gave way to a rational reflection that marked Hellenic civilization.
First volume of the series «La Grèce ancienne», published in 1990 and based on «Mythe et pensée chez les Grecs» by Vernant and «Le Chasseur noir» by Vidal-Naquet.
Reference work for those interested in ancient Greece and the history of thought.
