«L'armée des sables» is the archaeological adventure novel by Paul Sussman, published by Presses de la Cité in paperback (468 pages, in French).
The Persian king Cambyses sent an army to destroy the oracle of Siwa, which according to Herodotus vanished in a sandstorm. Centuries later, three violent deaths in Egypt lead Inspector Youssouf Khalifa and Tara Mullray to search for a hidden tomb, guided by a fragment of plaster with hieroglyphs.
French translation by Christian Molinier; categorized in Literature and Fiction and History.
The dual timeline between ancient Egypt and the present-day investigation makes it suitable for readers of historical fiction and archaeological suspense.
Paul Nicholas Sussman was a best-selling English author, archaeologist and journalist. His novels were described by The Independent as "the intelligent reader's answer to The Da Vinci Code".
