«L'éléphant à la trop petite trompe» is a children's picture book by Chun-ming Hwang, published by Gulf Stream Éditeur in paperback (40 pages, in French).
A little elephant is ashamed of his trunk, much shorter than the others'. To stretch it, he unsuccessfully tries surgery, a steamroller and prosthetics, until he prefers to live alone. The surprise comes during a forest fire, when an act of bravery makes him discover that it has also grown.
Published in 2006; the illustrations use the technique of collage of torn papers.
Recommended for children aged 3 to 5, especially for those who feel insecure about their own growth; useful for talking about self-acceptance.
