A través de un análisis de la prensa y bibliografía de la época, se examina cómo este emblema adquirió fuerza durante la campaña proteccionista de 1890 y se convirtió en un símbolo del movimiento político que buscaba mayor autonomía para Cataluña. La obra también aborda la interdicción policial de la bandera en 1897 y su posterior politización, culminando en su plena identificación con Cataluña en tiempos de la Solidaridad Catalana.
