El Jesús que muere en la cruz es así un ser vencido. En el centro de este contra-evangelio, que mezcla historia, mito y ficción novelesca, José Saramago plantea la cuestión esencial de las relaciones entre el más absoluto de los poderes y una libertad imposible.
