On the battlefield of Waterloo, among the wounded soldiers, Rachel York hopes to find salvation for herself and her friends. Deceived by a false suitor, the four women find themselves far from home, destitute and forced to live in a brothel. But Rachel is a resourceful young woman who refuses to give up. She believes the solution to all her problems lies in a handsome, dark-haired soldier who has lost his memory. To receive a large inheritance, Rachel needs a husband, and she decides to convince the unknown soldier to play along. What no one knows is that the young man is none other than Lord Alleyne, the youngest of the Bedwyn family. But despite his good intentions, nothing goes as planned upon their arrival in England, and the situation becomes complicated by the growing attraction between the fake fiancés in a farce that seems to be slightly... indecent.
