«Los hundidos y los salvados» is the essay by Primo Levi and Antonio Muñoz Molina, published by El Aleph Editores in paperback (192 pages, in Spanish).
Primo Levi closes his trilogy on Auschwitz with a reflection on what was lived in the extermination camps. Levi analyzes freedom, shame, responsibility, complicity and forgetting, and defends pity as the basis of human ethics. Articulating horror in words serves to keep critical consciousness alive.
Third installment of the Auschwitz Trilogy, originally published in 1986 and translated from Italian. This Spanish edition appeared in 2000 within the Personalia collection.
For readers of historical and moral essays seeking to understand the experience in the extermination camps and the value of memory.
Primo Michele Levi was a Jewish Italian chemist, partisan, Holocaust survivor and writer. He was the author of several books, collections of short stories, essays, poems and one novel. His best-known works include: If This Is a Man, his account of the year he spent as a prisoner in the Auschwitz concentration camp in Nazi-occupied Poland; and The Periodic Table (1975), a collection of mostly autobiographical short stories, each named after a chemical element which plays a role in each story, which the Royal Institution named the best science book ever written.
