«Madame Bovary» is the 19th-century novel by Gustave Flaubert, published in 1999 by Unidad Editorial in hardcover (319 pages, in Spanish).
The novel follows Emma Bovary, a young woman educated on romantic dreams, married to a country doctor. Dissatisfied with a grey life and a timid husband, she seeks in extramarital affairs and luxury the passion she believes she deserves. Flaubert thus portrays the aspirations and frustrations of the provincial bourgeoisie of his time.
Volume 6 of the collection «Las 100 joyas del milenio», with translation by Carmen Martín Gaite and preface by Luis Mateo Díez.
For readers of 19th-century French literary classics and novels with psychological portraiture and social criticism.
