«Madrid à l'écran (1939-2000)» is Jean-Paul Aubert's essay on the representation of Madrid in Spanish cinema (164 pages, in French).
A study of how Spanish cinema turned Madrid into a symbolic space between 1939 and 2000: filmmakers are not content merely to reflect the evolution of the capital, but reinvent it according to their desires and dreams. It is organized in three stages —Francoism, parliamentary monarchy and democracy— and combines the diachronic and synchronic analysis of urban representations.
Published in 2013, it consists of 164 pages in French and is part of the Série Espagnol collection from CNED.
A work of academic focus, intended for students of film and of Spanish history and for readers interested in the filmic image of Madrid.
