«Monsieur Teste» is the classic of French literature by Paul Valéry, published by Gallimard in paperback (144 pages, in French).
The narrator, who describes himself as someone who has lived and preferred himself, evokes his encounter with the enigmatic Monsieur Teste, a figure who has devoted his existence to thought and to observing his own mind. Through anecdotes, letters and meditations, Valéry builds a portrait of an absolute intellectual and, at the same time, a reflection on knowledge, consciousness and the human condition.
It belongs to Gallimard's L'Imaginaire collection. This edition was published on September 22, 1978.
Of interest to readers of French literature and to those who appreciate literary reflection on the mind and knowledge.
Ambroise Paul Toussaint Jules Valéry was a French poet, essayist, and philosopher. In addition to his poetry and fiction, his interests included aphorisms on art, history, letters, music, and current events.
