La obra recoge los procesos que sufrió Miguel Servet durante el siglo XVI y que lo condujeron a morir en la hoguera, en la Ginebra calvinista. Esta tragedia tiene una gran importancia dentro del proceso creador del dramaturgo, marcando una nueva etapa de un estilo mucho más complejo. En ciertos aspectos es una réplica al "Galileo Galilei" de Bertolt Brecht, pues en este caso se trata de un intelectual que prefirió la muerte a desdecirse de su propio pensamiento. Ha sido representada innumerables veces con gran éxito en América Latina. Basándose en su argumento, José María Forqué rodó para Televisión Española una serie de ocho capítulos.

He was an outspoken critic of censorship during the reign of General Francisco Franco and the ensuing political regime arising from the 1978 Constitution altogether. His most noteworthy plays include Death Squad (1953), The Gag (1954), Death Thrust (1960), and Tragicomedy of the Gypsy Celestina (1984).
