In 'No dejar que se apague el fuego' (Don't Let the Fire Go Out), Miriam Toews presents a moving story of three generations of fighting women. Elvira, the grandmother, has defied conventions since her youth in a strict religious community. Her daughter, a strong-willed actress, faces a complicated pregnancy while dealing with a painful past. Swiv, the granddaughter, is a girl with a rich inner world, who learns from her grandmother the importance of not giving up. This novel is a tribute to mothers and grandmothers, exploring themes of struggle, resilience, and the importance of keeping hope alive. With a mixture of tenderness, honesty and humor, Toews invites us to reflect on family life and the strength of women.

Miriam Toews is a Canadian writer and author of ten books, including A Complicated Kindness (2004), All My Puny Sorrows (2014), and Women Talking (2018).
