«Os Privilegiados» is the investigative essay by Gustavo Sampaio, published by A Esfera dos Livros in paperback (248 pages, in Portuguese).
The book analyzes how Portuguese MPs combine their parliamentary work with private activities, often in companies regulated by the committees they sit on. It documents conflicts of interest, the move of politicians onto boards of directors, and privileges such as lifetime allowances or partisan appointments.
The subtitle of the work is «Como os políticos e ex-políticos gerem interesses, movem influências e beneficiam de direitos adquiridos». The work was published in July 2013.
For readers interested in investigative journalism, conflicts of interest and the workings of power in Portugal.
