«Questions of English» is a reference work on the English language by Jeremy Marshall and Fred McDonald, published by Oxford University Press in hardcover.
A volume bringing together hundreds of real queries sent to the Oxford Word and Language Service, with answers on the origin, use and meaning of English words. It includes practical doubts such as the hyphen or the plural of «octopus», surprising etymologies such as «Tory» or «OK», and differences between British and American English.
The two editors worked as lexicographers on The New Shorter Oxford English Dictionary. The work is organized into thematic sections and closes with bibliographic references and an index.
Ideal for word lovers and those curious about English, from students and translators to fans of word games.
