«Real Dreams» is the photobook by Ruben Lundgren and Marije Vlaskamp, published by 200cm in paperback (160 pages, in English).
The book brings together 75 images taken during six years of travels through China. Ruben Lundgren portrays the enthusiastic adoption of technology, the changing political climate and the malleability of photojournalism with a humorous tone and a distinctive aesthetic: a robot waiter, an automatic pet dryer or an alien selling whisky.
Published in August 2021, it includes a text by Marije Vlaskamp; Lundgren made the trips through China on commission, among others, from De Volkskrant.
For those interested in documentary photography, contemporary China and visual essays with a critical and ironic gaze.
