Considerado por Stendhal como uno de los personajes más importantes de su tiempo, Beethoven compuso "Las criaturas de Prometeo" para Salvatore Viganò. Como bailarín, junto a su esposa Maria Medina, conquistó al público de media Europa, pero fue su trabajo como coreógrafo lo que lo llevó a la cima de la fama en Milán. El eco de su celebridad sigue siendo fuerte hoy en día, lo que justifica la cuidadosa investigación llevada a cabo por los autores del volumen para restaurar e interpretar el significado de sus obras. Este libro incluye contribuciones en italiano e inglés y es el resultado de una conferencia celebrada en el Teatro La Fenice, Venecia, en 2014.
