«Romancero» is an anthology of romances by various authors, with selection and commentary by Francisco Rico, published by Círculo de Lectores in hardcover.
The book brings together anonymous romances from the old romancero, composed between the 14th and 16th centuries and spread by minstrels: poems with simple language, assonant rhyme and the verse divided into two hemistichs, which recreate epic deeds, legends, battles and historical news, with some pieces of Moorish inspiration. Many leave the action suspended to increase the mystery.
This 1988 edition has 285 pages and belongs to the Biblioteca de Plata de los Clásicos Españoles collection from Círculo de Lectores.
For readers of classical poetry, literature students and those who want to approach the old romancero with an annotated edition.
