A police officer is shot and killed at Grønlands Torg in Oslo. A lawyer is reported missing by her daughter. Detectives Gunnarstranda and Frølich are assigned to lead separate investigations, but not everyone wants Gunnarstranda to succeed in his case regarding the murdered officer. Crucial evidence disappears from the victim's apartment and from the police station, and the investigation is shut down.
