«The Love Object: Selected Stories» is Edna O'Brien's collection of short stories, published by Little, Brown and Company in hardcover (544 pages, in English).
It brings together 31 stories written over five decades and offers a portrait of Ireland seen from within and without. The transition to adulthood, social class, family and romantic love, flight and nostalgia for home are recurring motifs; some stories are connected to each other and others show O'Brien's typical humor.
The edition includes an introduction by John Banville; the first American edition was published in 2015.
For readers of contemporary short fiction and Irish narrative who want a broad sample of Edna O'Brien's work.
