Lysander Hawkley, a man with breathtaking good looks and a kind heart, dedicates himself to rescuing stray dogs, mistreated horses, and neglected wives. However, his rescues often lead to intimate encounters that provoke the jealousy of husbands. Amidst a personal crisis, Lysander decides to profit from his ability to arouse jealousy and wreaks havoc in the county of Rutshire. But the real trouble begins when he meets Rannaldini, a temperamental and promiscuous international conductor, and his wife Kitty, whom Lysander sets out to rescue with the help of Rupert Campbell-Black.
