«The Song of the Lark» is Willa Cather’s bildungsroman, published by Vintage Classics in paperback (560 pages, in English).
Thea Kronborg, a young woman from Colorado with an exceptional voice, wants to devote herself to singing. Thea’s talent leads her to leave her hometown to train as an opera singer, but her rise demands sacrifices and distance from her roots. Willa Cather thus narrates the price of artistic vocation and the search for one’s own identity.
«The Song of the Lark» belongs to the Great Plains trilogy, as its second installment. The novel was originally published in 1915 and this edition includes an introduction by Penelope Lively.
It will appeal to readers of literary fiction and American classics, especially those who enjoy bildungsromans and the world of music.
Willa Sibert Cather was an American writer known for her novels of life on the Great Plains, including O Pioneers!, The Song of the Lark, and My Ántonia. In 1923, she was awarded the Pulitzer Prize for One of Ours, a novel set during World War I.
