En 1898, la vocación artística de Prudenci Bertrana comienza a enfriarse, dando paso a sus primeras incursiones literarias con relatos breves en revistas de Girona. Un año después, escribe su primera novela, 'Violeta', que permaneció inédita hasta ahora. Bertrana describe la creación de 'Violeta' como 'el primer intento de suicidio de un pintor triste, cansado de ser el Judas de sí mismo y deseoso de ahorcarse'. La escritura de esta novela marcó un punto de inflexión en su vida, llevándolo hacia la literatura y, siete años después, a la creación de su obra clave, 'Josafat'. Esta edición, parte de la colección Biblioteca Prudenci Bertrana, busca recuperar la obra novelística completa del autor, presentando esta novela inédita con edición de Guillem Molla e introducción de Glòria Granell.
