Alan Alexander Milne was an English writer best known for his books about the teddy bear Winnie-the-Pooh, as well as children's poetry. Milne was primarily a playwright before the huge success of Winnie-the-Pooh overshadowed his previous work. He served as a lieutenant in the Royal Warwickshire Regiment in the First World War and as a captain in the Home Guard in the Second World War.

A. A. Milne was born in London and studied mathematics at Trinity College, Cambridge.
Before his literary career, he served as an officer in the British Army during World War I.
His most famous work, Winnie-the-Pooh, was published in 1926 and was inspired by his son, Christopher Robin.
The author moved to a country home in Hartfield, which provided the perfect setting for his stories.
He stopped writing children's literature when his son grew up, as he considered him his primary source of inspiration.
