Michael Legat was a British writer of writers' guides and romance novels. He was Chairman of Swanwick writers' summer school and an associate vice-president of the Romantic Novelists' Association.

Michael Legat was born in London in 1923 and began writing at a very early age.

After 35 years as an editorial director at Corgi Books and Cassell, he decided to write full-time in 1978.

His first novel, Mario's Vineyard, was published in 1980, marking the start of his prolific literary career.

He is the author of 31 works that encompass both fiction and technical handbooks for writers.

His guides for authors have achieved great success, with sales exceeding 200,000 copies.
