Teodoro, a Spanish engineer teaching in Oklahoma, returns to Spain for his sabbatical year and travels with his father through a remote mountain village on a motorcycle with sidecar. The village seems empty because all the neighbors are at Mass: the liturgy has become a spectacle. There they attend annual elections that appoint the mayor, the teacher and the priest, and observe the peculiar customs of the place.
