«Cursive II» is the dance movie directed by Ross MacGibbon (2006), about Lin Hwai-min's ballet for the Cloud Gate Dance Theatre of Taiwan, on DVD.
Lin Hwai-min's choreography is inspired by Chinese calligraphy: the body draws strokes and the dancers, trained in meditation, chi-kung and martial arts, alternate restraint with expansive gestures, like ink flowing over paper. John Cage's experimental music and images of cracks in Song ceramics envelop the scene. Ross MacGibbon's camera preserves the contemplative atmosphere of the performance.
