«Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg» is Richard Wagner's opera directed by Wolfgang Wagner, with Bernd Weikl, Siegfried Jerusalem and Hermann Prey, on DVD.
Recording of Richard Wagner's only comedy, produced at the 1994 Bayreuth Festival with stage direction by his grandson Wolfgang Wagner. The staging avoids clichés and humanizes the characters: Beckmesser is a refined intellectual, Stolzing a thoughtful knight and Hans Sachs a warm, cordial man.
Two-disc edition (267 min) released in 2006 by Universal Music. The recording, with musical direction by Horst Stein, is sung in German with English, French and Spanish subtitles.
For opera enthusiasts and fans of historic Bayreuth Festival productions.
