«Die rote Wüste» is the film by Michelangelo Antonioni (1964), starring Monica Vitti and Richard Harris, on DVD.
Giuliana, wife of an engineer, suffers a serious psychological crisis after a car accident. Her family environment and the industrial landscape of Ravenna become threatening to her, as she experiences the dehumanization of the modern world with visions of unsettling beauty. Antonioni captures that anguish with a radical use of color and a mise-en-scène that blurs reality and perception.
DVD from the Arthaus collection published by STUDIOCANAL (2007), with audio in Italian and German (Dolby Digital 1.0), German subtitles, 112 minutes, region 2 and FSK 12.
For lovers of European auteur cinema and psychological drama, a key work of Italian cinema from the sixties.
