«Dr. Dolittle» is the 1998 movie by Betty Thomas, starring Eddie Murphy, Ossie Davis and Oliver Platt, on DVD.
As a child, John Dolittle discovers he can talk to animals, but his father forces him to suppress the gift. As an adult, a doctor and family man, he regains the ability after running over a dog, and his practice fills with sick pets. The situation becomes complicated when his colleagues doubt his sanity and the animals take the opportunity to speak up.
