El carrusel de la vida is a film set in Vienna during World War I. Count Franz Maximillian von Hohenegg, posing as a salesman, falls in love with Agnes, an organ grinder in the red light district. The film features corrupt characters, eager for power and dominated by their passions in the evocative Vienna of the early century. The famous Prater and its carousel, a symbolic element of the film, were recreated. Erich Von Stroheim was fired and replaced by Rupert Julian, who kept the original script.
