Sophie, a young milliner, meets the wizard Howl and arouses the jealousy of the Witch of the Waste, who transforms her into a 90-year-old woman. Unable to reveal her identity, Sophie leaves her home and arrives at Howl's moving castle, where she becomes a housekeeper and meets young Marko and the fire demon Calcifer.
